Using Water Based Oils

I decided to try water based oils after taking a workshop with Janette Jones. I loved the idea of using them at home so I didn't need to use mineral spirits. The idea of mixing with water seemed a dream come true.

So, here is what I've learned after only a couple of tries:

They feel less substantial than oil based ....what I mean by that is the hue or intensity of paint seems less and the feeling of moving the paint around is less than rewarding to me......will I continue to use them...YES.....because I want to continue to paint at home.

Also....my brushes were fraying in the water...never happens with oils......I'll have to check to see if there are better brushes to use.......

I never felt like I could get a great straight edge with the water based.....I know it's all about mastering the new medium.......

I did love the feel of a watercolor with the beautify transparent washes....

I'll get a better understanding as I continue to paint with them...after all Janette is making these fabulous paintings with Water Based oils.....I just need to figure it all out !

Here are the 3 steps to my painting.
